Working with Image Optimizers

Flying Pigs does the optimizing itself, in your browser, before the upload. The original is optimized (about 60% smaller, auto-rotated, metadata removed), every size is made, and WebP or AVIF copies are added. The files land on the server finished.

What happens to your optimizer plugin

Optimizer plugins such as Smush, EWWW, ShortPixel, Imagify and the host's own optimizer normally process every upload on the server. Flying Pigs keeps them away from its own uploads, so a file optimized in the browser is not compressed a second time. Uploads through the WordPress Media page still go to your optimizer as before.

A bulk or background optimizer that scans the library later can still recompress Flying Pigs' files. Leave that tool alone for them, or exclude them.

File names

Flying Pigs stores WebP and AVIF copies beside the image with the standard names delivery plugins understand:

flowers.jpg
flowers.jpg.webp
flowers.jpg.avif

With Pro's WebP only, the image itself is flowers.webp, with no JPEG beside it.

Some optimizer or delivery plugins use their own names, folders or rewrite rules and will not serve these files. The Delivery panel shows what is serving your WebP and AVIF copies, and can set delivery up for you.
