Working with AVIF images

Flying Pigs can add AVIF copies in your browser, for the original and every size you choose. AVIF is off by default. Turn on Add AVIF in the Media panel, where it has its own quality and effort settings, and choose which sizes get one in the Sizes panel.

At the defaults (quality 60), an AVIF comes out about the same size as the WebP at quality 75, and a copy larger than its source is thrown away. To get real savings from AVIF, try quality 50, which is roughly 28% smaller. The effort setting makes little difference to size.

The AVIF copies are named photo.jpg.avif, beside the image. The Delivery panel's Set up delivery for me serves AVIF as well as WebP where the server allows it.
